#geek - #TIL that Stephen Hawking was born 300 years to the day that Galileo died (January 8, 1642 vs. 1942) and died 139 years to the day of Einstein’s birthday (March 14, 1879 vs. 2018). Serendipity and symmetry. I think Hawking would appreciate the beauty in that.

Awesome kid ashamed of being a geek
Hi fellow geeks, I am hoping to get some advice to pass on to a kid that feels socially awkward and possibly ashamed of being a geek.
I work in a school as the IT guy and was recently talking to a coworker that has a son that is 12 years old, incredibly smart, and is a geek-in-training. He loves learning, reading, and playing games but he is having trouble being comfortable with his passions and dealing with other kids that are not as accepting of the geek lifestyle. As far as I know he's not being bullied, and being a geek is much more acceptable these days then when I was a kid, but he still feels the pressure of being "different" than most of his classmates. His mom got him a Captain America jacket that he really liked but only wore it to school twice because other kids thought it was uncool. I've told his mom how I was, and still am proudly a geek and have suggested some books to read, shows to watch, etc, and when his mom tells him about me his reaction is "Wait, this is a grown, married man with kids who also likes this kind of stuff?" which really made me feel for him.
I've shared with his mom some advice, the Simon Pegg(https://i.imgur.com/54oZB5E.jpg) and John Barrowman (https://i.imgur.com/LptRu7m.png) quotes, and have encourage him to continue to be himself, but if anyone has experienced this before or has a suggestion I would really appreciate it.
I'm also putting together a Geek Giftbox for him with books, movies, comics, toys, etc and am looking for any ideas for things I can put in it. He's a big Harry Potter fan, he likes comics and super-heroes, and more recently he's really gotten into Stranger Things but I feel like Stephen King books may be abit too much for him since he's only 12. Any ideas here are also super welcome.
TLDR: Great kid ashamed of his geeky proclivities, I want to convince him being a geek is great and provide him with some inspiration, advice, and cool stuff.
Thanks so much for any suggestions, I know he'll appreciate it.
