What are things in life you wished were explained you to in scientific/rational terms earlier?
As I get older, I realize that many things in life that seem irrational actually do have very rational explanations. I was inspired by The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion and how it explains the polarization in politics and the dogma that in religions using both psychology and evolutionary theory. After viewing such topics from this new perspective, I've begun to appreciate them for the value they bring to society and our civilization. As a result, I feel like I no longer require political or religious fanatics to provide rational explanations for what appears (from a strictly rational perspective) to be non-sensical demands.
Looking back, I do think that if I had the more rational explanations to start off with, I would have been much more kinder to those groups and not have gotten into arguments where I ended up straining relationships.
Are there topics in life that you wished you had a more scientific, academic or rational explanation earlier that would have benefited you? This should be a topic or subject area where rational explanations are not easily understood or dispensed (unlike say the subject of mathematics which is firmly rooted in proofs).
